Emerald Sunburst - 1st track with new Harley Benton

Johnny Robbo

This is the first new tune I've recorded in I don't know how long. Getting the new Harley Benton PRS-alike was the inspiration... along with the music of a certain sadly missed Irish guitarist (I wonder if you can tell who that might be – I do lay it on with a trowel here, I admit!)

All the usual suspects involved:

Harley Benton CST24
Harley Benton acoustic
No-name bass
Vox Tonelab ST
Cakewalk SI drums
ORGANised VST Hammond organ

Volume:

Exquisite playing Johnny! I can tell that you've solidly bonded with your new HB. You have stylistically channeled Gary Moore but I hear a lot of your own style in there as well....fantastic songwriting and playing! I think the new hair cut has also lessened the wind resistance on your fingers  ;D

The volume swells in the beginning actually remind me of Jan Akkerman before Gary shows up. You do such a good Job of building tunes up with your playing. And that friggin' ToneLab sounds sooo good.

Great post and congrats on your new acquisition.

Great tune, the guitar sounds killer! And you are the master of complementary sweep picks!! If I had that talent, I would do it all day long. I'd be like "Hey baby, come over here and check out this dope sweep pick"

Agree with Bloob, it builds perfectly and then just fades into oblivion. You rock!

I can see where you are coming from Johnny. But to my ears your style differs greatly from the late great Gazza with its own strong identity. The song stylistically nods a little to Gazza maybe, but the playing is all yours mate. I can also see where that Jan Akkerman comment came from too.

Cool stuff!

Can't say I particularly know the work of Gary Moore beyond Parisian Walkways, and much less Jan Ackerman, so I can only hear JR in the style.

And what an admirable one you have, sir. Starting out soft it grows into something quite huge and thrilling and your fingering is expertly tactile and skilled.

Your style, I mean.
