iRig Mic for Acoustic

Ain't got loads of money but I thought I could try and slip this little purchase in unnoticed :) Its the iRig Mic for acoustic guitar, and at the moment it's going for only £29 on Amazon. It gets mixed reviews so if it turns out to be a bag of poo then not too much harm done. But with any luck it will function and be useable. My little home studio set up is basically just a few guitars and a computer. I don't have a load of mics and have no idea how to go about recording an acoustic guitar. I have tried and failed miserably so thought I would give this a go.

I think my 15 year old daughter will have her eye on it too when it arrives. She has started playing guitar in the last 6 months or so and is starting to get quite good! She refuses to have anything to do with my blues playing (country she calls it!), so no family collabs on the horizon just yet!!

Anyway here is the link to that £29 iRig mic...

I have this pick up, it's actually quite good for recording purposes but I  never use mine. It's a lot like putting a condenser right into the guitar. The software is pretty cool stuff. I was hoping for more of a live application but being that you have to use it with a device I hardly use mine. I've been thinking about trying ut out with the trace but I have no shortage of mics... ::)
I think you'll like it!

I had  it for one day...and then I sent it back to Amazon .

The right choice is the more expensive iRig Acoustic Stage, IMHO.

I might be a bit thick... or getting too old to figure all this technology out, but at the moment I can't really get it to work :(

I can get it to work and hear it in headphones in amplitube and garageband on my laptop but can't getting it up and running in any shape or form on my main computer. But it seems I can only hear what i am doing on headphones - when i use the line out to a speaker it just goes crazy with feedback - the real screechy type that could blow an eardrum!

Might have another play around tonight and tomorrow - maybe a can of beer will help :) - but at the moment it is getting the thumbs down I'm afraid. It all seems a bit complicated and convoluted, I thought I would be able to stick it on the side of the guitar and plug the other end in like i do with an electric guitar and basically just start playing but it dosen't seem as straightforward as that... ah well.

From what I can find on the IK Multimedia website, the iRig Acoustic only works with iOS devices (iPhone, iPad or iPod touch). If you want to use it with other computers, amplifiers, mixers, etc., you need iRig Acoustic Stage instead.

See this comparison:

If you want to plug it into an amp or something like you would an electric guitar, you need the right adapter. The headphone output is stereo and a standard guitar jack is mono, so you need an adapter that combines the two channels into one, or an adapter that splits the single stereo jack into two mono jacks, then just use one of those mono jacks.

See this page at IK Multimedia:

Here's the Mono Output Adapter that IK Multimedia offers:

Of course, by the time you add the cost of the mono output adapter to what you've already spent on the iRig Acoustic, you're almost at the price of the iRig Acoustic Stage, so you'd be better off returning the iRig Acoustic and getting the iRig Acoustic Stage instead. The iRig Acoustic Stage has a standard mono 1/4" output jack, so you don't need to buy any extra adapters. Just run a standard guitar cord from the iRig's output to your amp or whatever.

Thanks a mil for shedding some light on this 64... it kinda makes sense now. I will have a little think about what I should do now... I might even give it to my daughter to mess with on her iPad.

Thanks again 64!!

I didn't have any trouble recording mine into whatever recorder I was using. Not sure where mine is but if I can find it tomorrow I'll give it a go.
