Tried to clean up the low mids. Please scroll down for a 256 kb/s version.

Steve Kimock is a wonderfully lyrical guitarist who keeps the majority of his chops held in reserve. Before leading some outstanding (mostly instrumental) solo bands and being part of the Grateful Dead family tree, his first band of note was Zero, part of the post-psychedelic scene in San Francisco.

"Home on the Range" is a tune I've always wanted to try but never thought the other guys would be into it (I called it "On the Range" merely to differentiate from the tune of the same name). When Neil, a guest sax player, came into town, I thought it was the perfect time to try this. I'm really sorry about the 96kb/s file, but it tends to go on a bit so I really had to squash it. I'm currently listening to a 256kb/s version, and the difference in bass, sustained high end and reduced warbliness (I think I made up a word) is quite noticeable.

Some editing to reduce clammage but mostly live in the living room from last week.  Lurker on vocals and EWC on second guitar.

Out the door to Atlanta for some family visitation.

Peace.

This is a good one guys even at 96kbps! Loved the sax, the jam and the vocal. At first I thought it might be a long listen when I saw it was 9:41 in length but the time flew by and it was over too soon. What amps are you using ?

Great performance. I'm not familiar with the original but I like the way you guys play it.

Quote from: Blooby on June 19, 2017, 07:32:47 AMHere is a 256 kb/s version for the time being.

Actually, Soundcloud streams everything at 128 kbps. If you make it downloadable, people will be able to download it and listen to it at 256 kbps using their computer's own mp3 player, but it will still stream at 128 kbps here at Songcrafters using the Soundcloud player widget. If I'm not mistaken, even playing it directly from the Soundcloud page will still stream at 128 kbps.

Here's what Soundcloud says on their help page:

"Please be aware that we transcode all tracks to 128kbps mp3 for streaming playback. When you make your track downloadable, however, this allows your listeners to download your track in the same format you uploaded it in, without any additional transcoding."

I think the best option for high quality mp3 files is alonetone. As far as I know, they don't have any limits on the bitrate or filesize that you can upload and they don't transcode the files to a lower bitrate. Songcrafters doesn't transcode your files either, so if you upload a 320 kbps file to alonetone, for example, and link to it at Songcrafters with the [singlemp3][/singlemp3] tags, it will stream at 320 kbps from our player.
