A few years ago I started playing the mandolin.  I got a good start from a website called mandolessons.com.  It's owner, Baron, teaches old fashioned fiddle tunes for mando.  They are easy and fun and a great way to get started on the mandolin.

Most of these tunes have two or three sections.  I wondered what it would sound like if I played a 3 section tune as a canon, where the sections are added one at a time and keep going.  The sections are panned far left, center, far right with some mando, guitar, and percussion filler in between.

Just for s and g's...

Excellent RON...Which is the origin of this tune ? it looks like it is in 6/8, like a Jig

Have you listened to the French medieval song I deposited? ("Belle qui tient ma vie" )

Your song is quite in the spirit of this song.

I had fun to cut a portion of your recording, to raise it by 2 tones so that it is in the same tone and put in my song.

 IDo you want I send the mp3 ?    ...and if it was possible to make an instrumental part with mandolin in my song it would be very nice ;D  ;
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Excellent, mate! It has shades of Mike Oldfield to it... Portsmouth & all that stuff he did in the mid-70s. Certainly sounds like you've mastered the instrument!

You are right, it is a 6/8 time jig, and it is Irish in origin.  I'd love to hear your 'Belle qui tient ma vie' with the piece you 'borrowed' from this tune.  Please send or post the mp3.

I will absolutely take a look at playing along with your tune as well, though the difference in key may slow me down a bit.

Thanks for playing.

Yes Ron, it woul be really pleasant tomake this song with a 6/8 de mandoline

In attachment the piece which I posted with replacement of my part(party) jig in 6.8 by a part(party) of your song Banish Misfortune, I have lowered the tone of origin of two half tone (it is possible with my DAW Reaper)  and ..it s good

I shall like very much making a more complete version of  this medieval song "Belle qui tient ma vie" with 4 stanza and two instrumental part(party) in 6/8

Hi JP,  I had fun playing around with this tune for quite a while.  You did well putting these tunes together.

There are also differences.  While the melodic ideas are quite similar, the spirit of the two is different.  Because of it's 2/4 time, "Belle" has changes is phrasing that won't fit in 6/8.  I think one could take the melodic idea from "Belle" and make a jig type tune, but I don't think you can keep the spirit and the lyric while making "Belle" 6/8.

I like it just like you did it above, like an interlude.  Feel free to use that or any part or whole of my post.  Enjoy.

peace,
Ron

Very relevant musical analysis Ron ...

Personally the passage of 2/4 Belle (Pavane) .. in 6/8 Jig not disturb me Like you say it s like an interlude

I believe moreover that John Renbourn and hiss Pentangle Group associated this Pavane with lseveral interlude of Sartarello - wich is also in 6/8

May  be that I would make a more complete version with 6 stanza of the song and several interlude in 6/8
