Hello all. Been a while ::)

I'm not as prolific as I used to be (back in the days when I'd write and record an album a month). Things have got a bit slower and more considered these days.

This one features a 12-string Takamine acoustic, Fender precision bass, Garageband virtual drummer, Garageband piano, strings, and synths, plus Thumbjam D-flute and mellotron flute. And up to 6 layers of vocals in places (I lost count). All recorded on my battle-scarred original MBR with it's original memory card, then stitched together with Audacity.

Kind of psychedelic, dark folk.

Lyrics

Twilight combs the fields
and fills the furrows with darkness
and under weathered stones
the lovers in the arms of time

i was born in the swirl
of a very strange fire
a son of the earth
and a serf of the shire

and if I were a farmer
you'd be my golden field of corn
and if i were a shepherd
I would find you in the storm
and if i were a horseman
on these downs we'd ride so free
yellow gorse and slanting silver rain
in the place they'll bury me

Twilight combs the fields
and fills the furrows with darkness
and under weathered stones
the lovers in the arms of time

i was born in the swirl
of a very strange fire
a son of the earth
and a serf of the shire

and if i were a tailor
i would sew you fine new clothes
and if I were an impressario
you would star in all my shows
and if I were a sonnet
these 14 lines I'd give to thee
yellow gorse and slanting silver rain
in the place they'll bury me

Twilight combs the fields
and fills the furrows with darkness
and under weathered stones
the lovers in the arms of time

i was born in the swirl
of a very strange fire
a son of the earth
and a serf of the shire

Welcome back Tim! I agree, it's psychedelic folk. Great vocals and words on this song. I like how all the instruments  are woven together so expertly. A nice one!

Happy Greeny Monday!

So good to hear a new one from you, Tim. Loved the acapella start, and the flute & mellotron bits are inspired. Still amazed at what you can make with the MicroBR - a nice slice of psychedelic pie!

Great to hear from you Tim!  And you have composed a wonderful treat to come back on.

I love the a cappella opening, the vocals are thick and lush with beautiful harmonies.  The 12 string sounds great.  You are a fine bassist and the flutes are an eerie addition. A fine listen.

Must admit I went to Lord of the Rings for a moment, but this is unique and original.  Excellent use of visual description in the lyric gives us depth that's hard to come by in music: "yellow gorse and slanting silver rain" and "golden fields" and dark furrows".  Very good writing.

Can't wait for more.
