I've always realised that the curve or "bout" in the bottom half of a guitar body allows you to place the guitar over your leg and keep it in place while playing sitting down. But what's the purpose of the upper bout?  I now understand...

Oh let's get the double entendres out! I'm reminded of the old UK TV cook from years ago called Fanny Cradock... she was making meringues & the presenter ended the piece by saying "... and I hope you meringues turn out like Fanny's!"
