Great story, and most of all I really dug the authors unashamed use of excessive hyperbole.
Nonetheless, what a bloody acheivement! It would have been as cold as the end of an eskimo's tool out there, no wonder hardly anyone has ever attampted it.

I particularly liked the line about the poor Greek swimmer who had a crack at it, "Jason Zirganos, died after an unsuccessful try in 1959 despite the efforts of a doctor who cut him open with a borrowed penknife to massage his heart".
