Let me tell you the story about this song ...

Currently I learn the dobro and the weissenborn guitar and there are on you tube many videos concerning these instruments
... and among these, there is a very very good dobroist called Troy Brenninmeyer
And he is very good teacher

..I came across a video where he plays with a guitarist singer Ben Smith and I liked this song
I sent a mail to Ben, about this song to have the lyrics of this one

Ben kindly replied and sent these lyrics by mail

It turns out that Ben is professor of French and English in St Louis USA .... formidable !!! Because my English is very poor

.... Ben Smith is also songwriter,  singer, multi instrumentalist and I recommend his site

Thanks Ben smith!

the lyrics of the song cause my poor english  :)

All alone for a happy hour or two
Late afternoon
Corner bar; I'm not a stranger anymore
It's where I've come since I came to face the truth
About me and you
In all this crowd
Can't someone help me out
Of the trouble that I can't ignore?
I'm ready for my rescue
Tell 'em to ransom me
Have 'em pay handsomely
Get me outta here
I never would have guessed you
Would be the one holding on
While I dreamed of being gone
Free and clear
I meant to keep all the promises I'd made
I wasn't afraid
I'd never fold to please a girl again
Now I run from the sound of my own lies
I realize
That I'm to blame for feeling so ashamed
Of being who I've always been
I'm ready for my rescue
Call in the cavalry
Show me some gallantry
Get me outta here
I never would have guessed you
Would be the one holding on
While I dreamed of being gone
Free and clear
The hardest truth I have to tell
Is that I can't do it by myself
My white flag waves; my signal's sent
Surrender's imminent
I'm ready for my rescue
Tell 'em to ransom me
Have 'em pay handsomely
Get me outta here
I never would have guessed you
Would be the one holding on
While I dreamed of being gone
Free and clear
I'm ready for my rescue
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

You are doing so well on your new Dobro JP.
Great recording, well done,
Nothing wrong with your English sounds good to me....

Fabulous JP, you have loads of soul in this. Really great performance (love the little bit of echo / delay on the vocal)

I listened to this yesterday on my lunchtime walk in warm sunshine - and LOVED IT. What a sound out of that Dobra. Wonderful.
