I posted this a few days ago & now I've done a video for it :)

Just done with my webcam & stitched together in VideoPad. The hardest thing was figuring out what I'd played in the spur of the moment so I could learn it and mime for the camera. Hope you like it!

You've really got to think why your are making these videos and what the viewer is going to get out of it.

I really don't like all the movement on the vid, it makes it very difficult to view and if you are going to make a video of you playing the guitar, I'd like to see both hands at a proper angle. I'm guessing other guitar players would too on Youtube as they might try to learn something by watching you play.

Having said that, there's no doubt your fingers fly over the strings and I liked the smile at the end  ;D

I really enjoyed this. I know what you mean about trying to work out what you played.  After working on a new piece I struggle to remember even the chords of the previous ditty.  In fact I seldom work on more than one piece at a time for the same reason.

I put it down to age  ;)

I really enjoyed this alot. I liked all the camera angles, I find it very dull to just watch a guitar player play...unless he's on fire. Since I do my videos live I've never had to mime a song but you did very well.
Rock on!

You are already a very accomplished musician Hook. John, look at the Youtube analytics, take off the songcrafter views (I would imagine we've all watched it all the way through) and then see what the audience retention is.

I watched this a couple of times earlier today and you mimic those licks pretty well.
Especially when you did the sweeps, very cool.

I don't think I could pull something off like that, plus my video skills are, well, nil.
You have a talent. Great song and video.

You can always tell a great player on how effortless they make their playing look and this looks effortless - super video.
This piece also reminds me a Boston as well!

Thanks chaps :)

I suppose I should clarify what this video is intended for...

I take your point, Hilary, that guitarists may want to see the patterns & shapes my fingers are moving through, but this isn't an instructional video - it's intended to flog some copies of the album. Basically it's there to entertain, rather than inform. If I could have afforded to do a "proper" video shoot, it would have been me, with a band, on a big stage... panning shots... lots of camera angles... feet up on the monitors... dry ice... etc etc

Not having the budget for anything remotely like that, I tried to inject a bit of interest via creative editing of me playing the lead part sat in my office/studio/spare bedroom. Just a static shot of someone playing the guitar doesn't make for particularly interesting visuals, to me anyway. It's pretty well known that the eye is attracted by movement, so movement is what I put in.

A bit like this, for example:

Not remotely like my video, admittedly, but lots of movement, lots of camera angles & not much chance to see what anyone is playing in any detail... but it sells the music and is entertaining, which is what I was going for  ;)

Thanks again, one & all... oh & the album is up on Spotify & Amazon now too  ;D ;D ;D ;D
