My submission to the Lost in 2016 fest.

The mp3 for this was too big to post, so thanks to Cuthbert and 64 Guitars for helping me to post this link to my soundcloud page.

I recorded this song over about 3 weeks and as usual, I started out wanting to create a pristine recording and got more and more sloppy as time went on. There are lots of mistakes but I wanted to get this posted here before the fest ran out.

I hope you enjoy it.

Ian

UPDATE: MP3 now attached for you listening pleasure.

Hi Ian - I fixed the link in the widget (quick instructions: share the track in SoundCloud, then grab the embed code and get the song ID number).

However, there's no direct linking in SoundCloud to the actual mp3 file, which means it can't be added to a Songcrafters jukebox. For us to add it to the festival jukebox you'll want to either upload the track here, or link it someplace such as alonetone.com, which offers a direct link to the mp3 file.

Can someone please direct me to the instructions for posting from soundcloud. I've done the obvious but I can't get it to work.

The instructions are here:

https://songcrafters.org/community/index.php?action=articles;sa=view;article=9#post_SoundCloud

They're not 100% up-to-date but they should be close enough that you can figure it out. But I've fixed it for you so you needn't bother this time.

Unfortunately, we have no way of adding SoundCloud-hosted files to the jukeboxes. I suggest that you either attach your mp3 to your post or upload it to alonetone or some other site that allows direct linking to the actual mp3 file (not just the html page that it's featured on).

Oops. It looks like cuthbert and I were both fixing the player and posting similar replies at the same time.  :)

Thanks for the help.

I did try to upload the mp3 but it was too big - just.

I knew there was help on the site somewhere for posting from soundcloud but I couldn't find it.

I'll survive for now - as long as you honour my post for the fest if I get a chance to post an mp3 later on :-)

No worries. Whenever you're able to provide an mp3 or a direct link to one, we'll be happy to add it to the festival jukebox.

If you're concerned about losing audio quality by making the mp3 smaller, remember that you can still have the SoundCloud player in your post. The mp3 is only needed for the festival jukebox. Also, you could consider posting a high-bitrate mp3 on alonetone. They don't have any restrictions on file size, and we can easily get a direct link to the mp3 for the jukebox.

Speaking of mp3 quality, are you aware that SoundCloud streams all mp3s at 128kbps? So even if you have to reduce the bitrate of your mp3 to 128kbps to make it small enough to attach to your post, it will still sound as good as it does via the SoundCloud player. And I suspect that you can make it small enough (7MB or less) without reducing the bit rate that far. Try 192kbps. That usually works for most songs, and the sound quality will be better than you're currently getting from the SoundCloud player.
