Rosanna - Robbomac cover Toto

Kenny suggested this one & I jumped on it. I love that whole Toto IV album. There was a bit of back & forth over what key was best for Kenny - apparently there are two vocalists on the original track so finding a compromise key where Kenny could sing both parts took a bit of working out. But in the end, he absolutely NAILED it! I'm really proud to have worked with Kenny on this & just hope that you chaps enjoy listening to it as much as we've enjoyed putting it together!

Now... the nuts & bolts of it:

I got a Guitar Pro file of the song and extracted the midi from it as the basis of the backer, then just used the usual Cakewalk Studio Instruments drums and the other plug ins listed below:

4Front piano
DVS Saxophone
DSK Brass
SI Strings
Triangle Analogue Synth (for the keyboard solo)

The guitar is my new Harley Benton (with the new Vanson p/ups), and (as always) the anonymous bass. All the guitar sounds were (as ever) courtesy of the Vox Tonelab.

Then a final wash through LANDR at High Intensity.

Thanks for listening, chaps!

Fuggedaboutit. I knew this was going to be great before clicking on it. My only niggle would be the rhythm guitar power chords need to come up a bit angrily in spots. Was curious during the listen if you were going to copy the solo. That ascending run is so satisfying. Dug how you did your own thing during the outro. Blinding playing as always. Cool keys as well. Were they all from the midi files?

Simply killer post.

I've always admired Steve Lukather's approach to playing guitar. John you have a style and approach all your own that is right up there with some of the greats. Kenny, nice job on a tough one to sing bro. Great collab guys!
