Here's a rough little version of a song that Johnny Cash used to do that was written by one of the most disreputable specimens of the Outlaw Country genre, David Allen Coe.
I've long had a bit of a fascination about this guy as he can write some of the most tender and soulful ballads and is also reponsible for writing some of the most vile, racist, misogynist and sexually explicit shit you will ever hear.

Anyway here's my take on Cocaine Carolina.

David Allan Coe is nuts. There is some great footage of him, sporting some weird Sgt Pepper from Mars get up, on Austin City Limits in the mid-1980s (with Warren Haynes in a white blazer on guitar) and it has to be the MOST coked out thing I've ever seen (found it, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNMUkAN2muk)

Anyways, I love this track. I really like how restrained it is, how much air there is in the conversation between the guitars. I'm not familiar with the original, but it has to be the most relaxed song about cocaine I've heard, which I'm sure is on purpose. Great track, dude, love it.

Nice one Brettbob, I'm always amazed at some of the places that Warren Hayes has popped up over the years, he seemed to have played with just about everyone from the South back in the day. I'm sure that playing with Coe would have left a few scars. I'd not seen that clip before, they're certainly charged on something.

Here's a no holds barred interview with notorious pornographer Al Goldstein which shows quite a bit of insight into the David Allen Coe mind set. I should probably add a warning that there may very well be some cussing and profanity included in this clip. He does a bunch of his X Rated/Underground songs and then he does a couple of more tender, heartfelt ballads about life, family and his Mormon religion. The contrasts are pretty crazy.
That aside, I would recommend not watching this clip if you are easily offended.

Not an artist I'm familiar with to be honest, but I love this song. As with all your posts, it is superbly performed and produced. Love that steel guitar & Duane Eddy style twang interplay. Just gorgeous from beginning to end. Bravo, mate!
