It was very sad when Greg Lake passed away prematurely last year.

Court of the Crimson King is one of those albums that defined my musical landscape.  It was in my mother's record collection in the early 70's when I was six or so years old and was on a lot at a time when I was making sense of the world.

I still play it a lot and it's great to be able to do a cover of this song.

In doing so I found the delights of the ThumbJam Melotron, which is my new favorite thing.  There's also some heavily processed Harley Benton LP, my Ibanez Talman, two (GB) drum tracks (ride cymbals only) and a GB keyboard.

I marvel at the quiet sparcity of the original, and I couldn't get close to that, I'm afraid.  And I didn't even attempt the 10 minutes or so of free-form jazz frippery that follows.  I'd always assumed the song was full of weird jazz chords, but it's actually quite simple when you break it down.

Anyway, please enjoy responsibly...

I too love King Crimson, and this album, and this song.  You did up a very good version, lots of great stuff to listen to here, attention to detail.  I am impressed by the drums, very cool.  its quite a production.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

I listened to this earlier in the car.  I'd not picked up those horrible distortion artifacts last night. V2 is needed.

The word 'eerie' is right.  I found the song to be quite unnerving through the whole process, and those melotron sounds didn't help.  It's been a weird week -  my daughter is in hospital and my wife in with her, so I've been spending a lot of time in hospital too then home alone overnight.

Anyway, v2 now uploaded, hopefully I've fixed those distortion problems.

Sorry to hear about the hospital thing, Nick - I hope all is well with your daughter. I do recall this song, although I can't say that I know 'Court' very well.

Love the guitar and especially those Mellotron sounds - they sound fantastic together!
