I have a birthday coming up and I'd really like this: http://www.presonus.com/products/FaderPort-8/features. I've been working in Sonar for a while now and using a mouse is giving me RSI.

However, I'm not sure if I can present a successful business case to the main gift giver

This looks like a very interesting control surface and it supports many DAWS (pro tools yeah!). The specs doesn't have anything about the HUI protocols following automation points, but it looks like this thing does a lot of useful stuff.
Hopefully you will be at the helm of this little gem soon.
