Here's a mainly instrumental song I've just written called "Mercury Man"

Kenneth

Cool!
I like your piano playing!
Curious, where did the inspiration come from?

Cool composition. Love the discordant piano chords & the melody has a whiff of Zappa about it (which is always a good thing in my book). Not sure about the drum track though... I think it would be fine without it if I'm being honest. Still... a great little catchy & original piece. Bravo!

The drum track is one of those provided on my Yamaha keyboard and is not one of their best. I did remove the drums from parts of the track but decided to leave them on in others, however they seem slightly out of sync. I am of course free to spend my cash on other methods of obtaining drum sounds.

The discordant chords are usually found by experimenting and seeing what sounds good to me. At 0:30 the chord is Bm with a C# bass, and at 0:33 it is A7 with an F# bass, which is possibly the same as an inverted A13.

The inspiration for the song came one day when I was thinking of Holst's planets suite and wondered if I could write something about the first planet from the Sun, Mercury, then maybe continue with Venus and so on. I did listen to Holst's Mercury on Youtube, but it is nothing like mine!

Nice one David!

I like this a lot! The keys and piano sound very well together! Catchy melodies and your voice puts a nice flavor to this!

Well done!

Yeah... it IS a bit different  :) I love The Planet Suite (Jupiter, The Bringer of Joy is my favourite) I love the way you've used an existing piece as inspiration and come up with something entirely original. I'd love to hear what you do with the other planets!
