Traction is showing the latest version of their DAW "Waveform" running on a Raspberry Pi. This got me thinking. Since nobody seems to be making any new hardware multitrack recorders anymore, it might be cool to have a dedicated DAW workstation based on Traction running on a Raspberry Pi. Some of you might be thinking "Why would anyone do that when they can get lots of great DAWs for their iPad?" Well, first of all, not everyone has an iPad. And, secondly, they cost too much to use one just for your music. But you can get a Raspberry Pi and a 7" touchscreen for about $100 US. At such a low cost, you can afford to make it into a dedicated music machine. No email, no web browsers, no games - just Traction, some effects plugins, and perhaps some other music software such as Hydrogen for drums. So, for about $100, you can have unlimited audio tracks, unlimited MIDI tracks, automation, a nice full-colour display, and much more. The Raspberry Pi alone is only $35, so if you already have a spare monitor lying around, you could build your dedicated music machine for a lot less. Of course, you'd need an audio interface which adds to the cost. But I think the end result would be worth it. You'd have a small, dedicated music machine with a lot more capabilities than a Micro BR or BR-800, for example, at a much lower cost. It's something to think about anyway.

This interests me very much. I have a Raspberry Pi that I was going to make into a media center, but this idea gets the gears turning. At this price point, maybe make both?

Just unboxed an Obscura, and I went for their Supernatural ambient reverb as well (due tomorrow).

Have looked at the Ventura but am leaning toward the Dry Bell Vibe Machine II. Will have to check out the Dirty Robot.
