I should probably start by saying that I'm not massively happy with how this one came out, I really had to force it and to my ears it sounds forced. The drum part is somewhat lacking, and the open hihats are way too loud in the drum mix, but it was the best I could do with the time frame and not having Mitch Mitchell at my disposal, (I was really trying to go for an "Axis-Bold As Love" kind of thing).
The vocals could be a lot more accurate, they feel fairly "pitchy", and the lyrics could do with a bit more work
However I do like the song, I'd just love to get a better recording which I don't think I could do multi tracking at home.
It really needs a live drummer.

Any way let us know what you think, I'd love to hear any ideas on how I might be able to improve this tune.

Hi Jimbo,

Don't be too hard on yourself. This is a great song and a great performance. I love the hook in the chorus. The distinctive sounds are your vocals - very original, and I really love those tasty guitar licks.

The mix seems to be a little bit unbalanced and perhaps not loud enough.

One thing you can try to fix this is to get a free account with LANDR, which is a web based mastering service. It will balance all the different sounds in your song, apply some compression (in a good way) and bring up the volume. I have been using this service for about a year and it always seems to add a little bit to my mix, even when I think I have them right.

Great work, thanks for sharing.

I agree. This sounds pretty good to me. You could master with a bit of comp. to
even out some peaks but not much IMO.
If your not happy with the hi-hats just adjust them. Great song though.

LANDR hey? I may very well have to look into that.

That last song I posted "You Better Run" was an absolute breeze to record. Each track just sort of flowed into the other, however with this latest tune everything seemed to be a struggle. I get very limited time in my house to record without interruption so when things take a lot longer than they should I start to stress out a bit.

Very enjoyable listen, some really great guitar work in there. We are always our own harshest critics but this sounds fine to me.    Willie

I've done a bit of a remix on this tune and redone the drums which were really starting to annoy me with the open hi hats running through the whole song.

The mix sounds a whole lot more open to my ears and I'm starting to like this tune more and more.

This is a great recording of a brilliantly written & performed song. Superb vocal... somewhere between Tom Waits & Captain Beefheart. I loved it!
