Also from the Week of My Birth, Golden Lights by Twinkle.  Better known (to me at least) as one of the few covers the Smiths committed to record.  It was at number 30 in the hit parade on the day I was born, having peaked at number 21.

Was going to be a LITLR (actually LITB in my case).  And it was, but I did it twice independently.  I wasn't particularly happy with either one their own (partly because of the fluffed endings), but happy with both together, panned.  Which makes it double-LITLR.  Or just disqualifies it from that fest.  No biggie.

It's just me and my Ibanez Talman acoustic.  Twice over.

Enjoy

Don't know the original, but I have heard of Twinkle before (and of course the Smiths).

Really like the fingerstyle guitar and the doubled, panned different takes - they do work together well.

Hook

Love it Nick, absolutely wonderful performances. As much as I'd like to see a double banner I really love the way the 2 takes work together.
Rock On!

I kind of knew it was a cover, but I'd not heard the original (or heard of Twinkle, come to that) before this fest made me go off and look.  I always thought it was a bit of a Smiths oddity and is possibly my least favourite track of theirs.

I was a little surprised at how similar the two tracks were. The process was record one track, fluff the ending (hit guitar in frustration), mute that track and do it again from the top on another track (including similarly fluffed ending) - they're both done over a metronome / click track.  Then when I played the two together something magical happened.  And actually there's a third acoustic guitar-only track in there, quiet and with a bunch of reverb, just to beef it up a bit.  Capo on the fifth fret.

I agree that both tracks are so close together they work perfectly. A roommate in college was a Smiths fan but I don't remember this song, a lot of things I don't remember though...
