This week's song from the charts on the Week of My Birth is Honey I Need by Pretty Things.

This one appealed to me from when I first saw it in the list, although I wasn't previously familiar with the song, or the band come to that.  I'd thought they were American, but turns out they're Londoners and in fact came from the same community as Rolling Stone, and traded band members back and forth for a while.

This their third single and the first they wrote themselves. I was surprised to hear they're still going, and their latest album was released last year.  I have to say this music speaks to me much more than any Rolling Stones song ever did.

This is recorded in GarageBand but there's no GB instruments; it's drums from DM-1 over inter-app Audio, my Squier Jaguar bass and two tracks of guitar with my Harley Benton LP.  And two vocal tracks.

Enjoy.

Loved it! Not heard the song before, but I love the band, especially in their later psychedelic period.

I enjoyed all attention paid to the fine details (those guitars really sound period-authentic). Great listen!

Thiis is bloody marvelous. I need to hear more details you did those drums, and that use of reverb is just great. Great performance all around. Loved it.

Very authentic sounds, that guitar sounds like its straight out of a 60's recording. Not familiar with the band, but sounds very much like the stones. Very nicely done, and an interesting choice.

Yeah man those drums are rocking. You have a cool 60's vibe going on with this one. The rhythm guitar has that jangly sound from that time. I'm not familiar with the song, but you did a nice job with recording and playing.

Definitely got that retro 60s vibe nailed perfectly on this one. Like others have said, I wasn't familiar with this one but now I'll have to check this band out. That HB LP sounds perfect for this... the epitome of of how guitars sounded in the 60s before anyone discovered the "gain" control on the amp :)
