Johnny posted this fabulous acoustic blues tune the other day and I couldn't resist. Just recorded the vocal in my car this afternoon.
The Whiskey Made Me Do It
music by Johnny Robbo
lyrics by Hook
Well the whiskey made me do it
I promise you  that's true
and even now I'm not really sure what it was
But judging from your absence
It wasn't good

I imagine I got out of control
and said some things that I probably didn't mean
But in my defense long before you love me
you know what kind of grip whiskey had on me

Well the whiskey made me do it
and I'm sure that you're tired of hearing me say
that I blame it all on the bottle
and take no responsibility

I imagine that I lost my temper
and I bet you even might have been scared
Honey you've known me a long time
And you know  I'd never hurt a single hair

No I would never put You In Harm's Way
no matter how much I've had to drink
I can always see you through the haze

The whiskey made me do it
Not so much an excuse as a fact
And yes sober me regrets my actions
We both know this small window of each day
is really only an act

I imagine I must have seemed crazy
I probably said the wrong thing to the wrong guy
I can tell that it didn't come to blows
because I never ever win a fight

I assume people thought me a jackass
why on Earth would anybody want to be his friend
but darling I appreciate you
and how you brought me home
and tucked me into bed

All the whiskey made me do it
and I imagine it'll make me do it again

Damn brother... that was good. You delivered that with balls and passion. You picked a great melody line to go with Johnny's super track, and your vocals have a great rich tone that is perfect for this. Loved it.

Oh WOW! To think that the little drunken fingerstyle noodle I came up with ended up sounding like this just blows me away!!! You're a genius, mate!

Fan-bluesastastic Hook! You nailed that drunken Delta Blues style right down. I'm thinkin' you were nippin' at the whiskey bottle when you sang this. After hearing yours and Mike's versions of this makes me want to jump on Johnny's whiskey wagon or is that fall off the wagon? I'm not sure though because you and Mike have done such great takes that it would be hard to compete. Well done!

Listening to this I picture the two of you in the same living room recording guitar and vocals together; the vocals don't sound added on. And they're great vocals, by the way - a great complement to the first rate guitar playing.

Love the ending too.
