Hi Everyone,

I had posted earlier about a local song contest for Toronto.  Well... everything has gone wrong!  I lost my voice (can't sing anyway!) and then I could not find my AC Adaptor for my Midi Keyboard so I couldn't add a piano track.  This means I had to sing along, not only to a drum track but also with a sore throat.  Not only that, I've only had my BR for 2 weeks and had to try to learn what I needed to get this project done.  I tried adding Reverb and a Pop Mix but I don't think I did that right - do you?  Oh well, have to learn these things when I have more time.

Thank goodness this is only a Song Contest and not American Idol!

The deadline to enter is April 30th so there are only 4 days left.

If someone could add a bass it would be fantastic.  And then if there is anyone who feels they could add a guitar track to thicken it up (it's pretty thin right now!) that would also give me a chance to enter this.

The song is corny but it's hopefully what they want.

Here are the chords:

INTRO: 2 Bars      G | D

VERSE: 8 Bars      G | Bm | C | D | G | Bm | C | D

CHORUS: 8 Bars    G | Bm/F# | C/E | D | G | G  Bm/F# | C/E | D

BRIDGE: 8 Bars      F/C | F/C | Am/C | Am/C | F/C | F/C | Am | D

ENDING:  Cycling from D to G - Repeat 3 times.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks so much,

Paul

Hello everyone,

Well, I've had a 'reprieve'... as usual, I got the dates wrong.  The Toronto Song Contest deadline is May 10th so I have until probably May 8th to get it finished.

Ronnie Macdonald has kindly added a great guitar track so I'm going to re-record my vocal track on the weekend.  My throat is getting better everyday so I should be able to do a better job.

Then, hopefully, some kind soul will have a shot at adding a bass line.

Thanks!

Paul

I will give it a try with the bass in the next couple of days (need also to figure out how to work with the BR).

Hi LCB,

Please wait until the weekend to do the bassline (unless you know how to just upload the bassline only).  I still have until May 10th to enter the song and would like to re-record the vocal now that my throat is getting better.

But if you can figure out how to send your bassline track only that would be great!

My e-mail is paulsmith@fujispray.com

Good luck with learning how to use the BR Micro - it's a fantastic tool with tons of features but unless you're a genius, it can be frustrating.  Luckily there is a lot of information on this forum and people who will help you.

Bye,

Paul

Just a suggestion : If You pan the bass right and the rest left you can separate the bass (and still be able to syncronice it easyli with the old recording)

Hi LCB,

Here's the latest version.  I wasn't able to synch the guitar to drums so had to record a keyboard track instead.  Hopefully you or someone will be able to add a bass track.

Please e-mail the bass track to me separately at paulsmith@fujispray.com so I can do a new mix down.  I intend to once again do another vocal.  My throat is still sore after all so my voice gave out.  I have a week to finish this off so I should be ok.

If anyone would like to add some Lead Guitar or Rhythm, that would be great.

Here are the new chords.  If you forward me your e-mail, I can e-mail you an actual Lead Sheet that would be clearer.

INTRO: 2 Bars      G | D

VERSE: 8 Bars      G | Bm | C | D | G | Bm | C | D

CHORUS: 8 Bars    G | Bm/F# | C/E | D | G |  Bm/F# | C/E | D

BRIDGE: 8 Bars      F/C | F/C | Am/C | Am/C | F/C | F/C | Am | D

ENDING:  Cycling from D to G - Repeat 3 times.

Hello Everyone,

Well I really left things to the last minute and could not do a nice mix with the tracks I had.  So I called up one of my friends who is pretty good at doing backing tracks and they layered 3 guitars, drums and bass down for me.  It sounds a bit karaoke but it's gonna have to do.

So really, all that was done with the Micro BR was vocals.  I sang along on a separate track to get dual tracking on the choruses.

In this process, I've learned a lot about recording with the external mike (bought 2 of those 'phoney' Sony mikes on the internet - one quit on the left side after only a few minute's use but the other is ok).  I now understand transferring tracks back and forth to the computer and the effects.  I need to actually know more about how to really tweak the effects for best results.

I want to thank very much everyone who sent me files.  I really do appreciate your help.

The top 10 finalists will be announced at the beginning of June.  I will post here if I'm so lucky.

I've uploaded the Mp3

Ha Ha,  This is just great!!  I'm glad you got it all worked out. AND I hope you win. Or at least place. Your friends did a great job! You singing is superb now that you are over your cold and stuff.
