John suggested a parody of "Where Have All the Good Times Gone?" by The Kinks I believe as a result of a conversation with 64.

As part of recent GAS purchases, I got an old SGX 2000 rackmount unit on the cheap. As I was scrolling through presets, I couldn't get over how many over-chorused cheesy metal sounds there were. This epiphany tipped the scales in favor of a parody of a cover of Van Halen who were initially covering The Kinks (Kevin Bacon certainly must be in there somewhere). The David Lee Roth snippets were from isolated vocals from "Runnin' With the Devil" on YouTube.

John's lyrics also were a bit of a parody of Songcrafters itself. Absolutely no disrespect was meant toward anybody as he was pretty much taking the piss out of all of us...and most certainly the two of us. Great lyrics by John. Super clever.

I should also mention that I just crushed the hell out of this on purpose. The file appears to have no dynamic range whatsoever. It makes me chuckle whenever I look at it.

Peace.

Oh yes! I love this song. Great lyrics and doing it Van Halen style was a brilliant idea. Love the SGX 2000 sounds.

I like this song!

I heard the DLR hoots before I had read the post and nearly fell off my chair thinking that Lurker actually did an incredible David Lee Roth impression! :D

Anyway, loved the guitars, vocals and those DLR snippets. Going to listen to this one some more. Any chance we can get the lyrics, too?

Because the Hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The hook brings you back
On that you can rely

Since you asked, here are the lyrics:

Does Anybody Like My Song?

When I was young I pumped out songs and didn't stop to think
Throw down words a guitar riff and have another drink
But now it seems to take so long
Afraid that I might get it wrong

Won't you tell me
Does anybody like my song
Does anybody like my song
Does anybody like my song

I might write a protest song but you might take offense
I could write a silly song but then you'd think I'm dense
All I want to do is please
So I'm begging from my knees

Porter and Berlin and the Gershwin boys were greats
Lennon and McCartney helped to form another age
I think of them and wonder why
A guy like me should even try

Now I find I've joined up on a music maker site
Looking for approval for my work both day and night
Worried that I can't compare
With amateurs from God knows where

Sorry, but it doesn't include the DLR parts.

Loving this,
Great guitar tones and playing, and a voice to die for....
Brilliant........

I'm a lot more familiar with the Van Halen version of this song than the Kinks one, and you've done a great job at recreating it.  Reminds me of my university days in the mid-80's.  Aah...

Those lyrics really hit the nail on the head, here.

Great ending.  Then another great ending.

DLR was a case, wasn't he.

Not familiar with the original that you're parodying, but that didn't stop me enjoying it! You nailed that EVH tone... all saturated overdrive dripping in chorus. Superb vocals too. The whole thing conjures up images of mullet haircuts with blonde highlights & day-glo spandex trousers.
