I picked this Rouge Lap Steel up this morning off craigslist, just couldn't help myself. I love it! Both video & audio recorded with my Tascam DR-v1HD

you are the man Hook, you could slice a Melon in Half drill holes in it ,string it up and get a tune out of it.
If there was an award for musical innovation you would have a wall full of them.
Ill be tuning in(if you pardon the pun) for more songs from this baby.
I think Ive got to get a lap steel now,Damn this site ;D

Great performance and video.
By the way what is that picture you zoomed in on?

Thanks guys. I don't particularly think I've excelled at any one instrument. I'm a good guitarist, a good ukulele player, an ok drummer and a fair vocalist...everything else is intermediate to beginner fumbling.
I do think my ear has developed from the last 10 years of performing and recording and I have no fear or intimidation from any instrument. In fact I have an overwhelming desire to get my hands on every instrument made.
I gravitate to instruments that can give me songs, so I guess if I was excelling at anything it's songwriting...and my performance skills are probably at the top of my game right now.
Here's hoping I don't have a complete mental break and destroy all I've built... ... ...!

You should get one today!

The pic is actually a charcoal drawing that was left (w/some other pics and art supplies) on the front door of the Child Care Center I worked at over 20 years ago. I have no idea who the artist is. My wife and I named it "Humble" and have had it hanging most, if not all of our 18 years of marriage.
Rock on!

It befuddles me how you make music out of anything whereas my forte is making noise.

Now I'd like to hear some overdrive and echo on that baby.

I really dig your "don't fear the new instrument" philosophy, Hook - it's one I try to follow myself! Wish I could get good music and a song out of it as quickly as you do. :) You are a song master.

Cool song and video, wish the volume was just a bit higher. Did you say the tuning was ACEGCE? That's a variant of good old C6 tuning - I like what you got from that voicing!

Yeah cuthbert, I tried the C6 tuning but that left my strings really Slack. It didn't sound bad, I just didn't like how loose the lowest strings were so I Googled and found that tuning.
Like you say it's basically the same tuning just different voicing and as soon as I tuned that bottom string up to the A it just sat right.
Since I've never played one before it doesn't affect me at all having no point of reference. Fun to play, fun to play!

John Lennon once said... "I'm an artist: give me a TUBA and I'll get something good out of it"

I think this applies to you, mate. An instrument you've been playing for only 10 minutes and you get THIS out of it???!!!

You are one of those rare individuals who just have "it" (whatever "it" may be). Gobsmacked!
