I think I've reached that age/period of responsibility where I don't much get excited about events on the horizon. I just work/am preoccupied up until the event, and then I usually have a great time and reflect on it. If you can following that meander, you'll understand how uncharacteristically giddy I am at the prospect of seeing Darrell Scott tomorrow night in Atlanta. If you aren't familiar with him, I can't urge you enough to check him out.

This is our attempt at covering a tune actually written by Wayne Scott, Darrell's father, but one which Darrell regularly performs today. I think this is the 3rd or 4th tune we've posted where we were coming out of "Dixie Chicken" by Little Feat. They are eerily similar rhythmically, at least the way I play them. That might be because I have only one trick in the key of A bag.

I should mention that I'm also visiting my mother, brother, and sister-in-law, culminating in Sunday night's viewing of the world premiere of Sharknado IV (that's right...roman numerals, baby). And if you have to ask, you probably shouldn't.

Peace.

The Whiskey that Ease the Pain by Wayne Scott

It ain't love, it ain't money that makes this world turn around
When you hit rock bottom you still may not be on the ground
I can tell you something in case you're walking with a cane
It ain't love, it ain't money, it's the whiskey that eases the pain

Eve told Adam that she had apples for sale
Adam bought the first one and I bought the last one and went to hell
I can tell you something in case you're walking with a cane
It ain't love, it ain't money, it's the whiskey that eases the pain

Well I'll drink doubles and chase my troubles away
And while you're waking up tomorrow I may still be living today
If you need a crutch don't try to walk with a cane
It ain't love, it ain't money, it's the whiskey that eases the pain

Excellent vocals, and the guitar is just sublime... how you get such a full arrangement out of just a single guitar always amazes me. A shame you chaps don't live anywhere near me... I'd be at all your gigs!

This song isn't just a favorite of Blooby's.  It's more of a mantra.

I really have no rebuttal.

So the Darrell Scott concert was fantastic as expected. He is such a gifted improviser...kinda makes me ill. There was a grand piano on stage that he used for 4-5 tunes. Most notably, he reinvented "River Take Me" on keys, which really drove home the lyrical content. Tickets were only $26 apiece, but the four of us rang up a $450 bill after drinks and meals (this would be on top of the ticket prices, which were purchased long ago). We were in shock to say the least. Beware if you ever head to a chain called The City Winery (Nashville, New York, Atlanta, etc.).
