Hook

Blooby- great idea, sounds like a logistical nightmare...Maybe the job of some sort of administrator?

Lurker-I just saw it on the shelf 2 days ago but it's not coming up on thier website. If I can get there tomorrow and they have it I'm buying it for you. Message me an address to send it to.

Interesting thread. I'm in a deep, wild part of Devon with no phone signal, so will be pretty scarce for a couple of weeks. Then I have to pack up my flat and move. So as others say, sometimes there's just too much 'real life' going on to spend the time we'd like commenting and recording etc.

I've been here a decade. I've seen people come and go, I've seen the occasional argument flare up, and I've seen people lose and re-find their musical mojo. Everything is transitory and often things work in cycles. I've learned not to analyse too much - I just accept what I find here everytime I log on. And I'm always grateful for that very first time I logged on and found this place.

There have been a few people who haven't been fair in their song to comment ratios over the years, and it can be annoying. But they've tended not to hang around, or have learned to adapt and get more of a community spirit over time. Again, I don't pre-judge - I just treat every newbie exactly the same as I was treated. It's then up to them to play nicely or get ignored.

There's still a 'core' on here though. A bunch of people and soul mates who have altered and touched my life in small or major ways. It's nice to know I can connect with them in this musical hub.

And as always, thanks to 64 guitars who is the lynchpin holding it all together. And he's right about collabs: just ask people. I've never turned down a direct request for a collab, or had one of mine rejected. True fact. And I've done so many.

I know we aren't all Brits, but I think Britain is in a deep crisis and depression at the moment, and it's bound to affect lives, creativity and productivity. I just hope we can collectively get back on an even keel, because right now, it feels like there's a big black squid of malaise enveloping the country.

2:50am and I can't sleep. Too much cider.

Hook - I'll be near a Guitar Center tomorrow.  I'll drag my kids in with me and take a look.

Sorry - that was a bit of a late night ramble!

These threads are important though. A bit of blood-letting - like a course of leeches - is healthy for the community.

Ramble On!

I don't know how I feel about what's going on in Britain right now.  I'm here in the USA where people get shot every day.  I do have faith that you Brits are resilient and you will pull your way through whatever comes your way.

I also know that "Does Anybody Like This Song?" is a great title put forward by 64G.  I'll try to write some lyrics, and if I can't record them, I'll send them to someone who can.

The Kinks, eh? Who would have thought they're so uninspiring?!

I've never really bought into them - not like the Beatles, Stones or Small Faces. I'm not even sure why: the songs are great! 'You Really Got Me' was even the first song I did in my first band when I was 18.

There's a mystery to solve here, because we're all musicians with good taste who should like the Kinks but don't. Why oh why?

Is it because Ray isn't as good a songwriter as he thinks he is? Is it because Dave is an arse?

I think the Slow Fest could have a lot to do with time of year... I think a lot of people have put in a huge chunk of effort into their respective day jobs and are just recharging a bit. I know I do not take part in all, or even many of the fests, just when I am "feeling it" for that particular fest. I only really get time for roughly one tune, sometimes two (if i am lucky) a month and quite often I have something different (an original tune) rattling around in my brain that i need to get out.

Having said that - I don't really know much about the Kinks either - but i have checked some of their stuff out on You Tube and I am going to have a go at one, if i can pull it off. It was on 64's suggestion list. The Parody fest is a good idea, but demands a little thought, so if I can think of something worthwhile and have the time i might give it a go too.

Participation wise... I think as has been said, a lot of folk have their own reasons for being here. Personally, as I inflict my song attempts on others, I try to give as many comments as I get; commenting has to be genuine too though I think, not just a "great I have recieved 10 comments, so I have to give 10 comments back as quick as possible" type of thing, I think something in a song has to genuinely move you in order to comment or it is hollow praise I think.

Collab-wise... I think i have some kind of Mike Oldfield type complex where i try to do it all myself. Apologies for this, but it is just how I am, might be a temporary thing... not sure lets see... counselling might help  ;D

Anyways... I think most of us are in agreement, this is a great site that has given a lot of enjoyment in different ways to a lot of people...  :) :)

64 makes some good points & he's definitely given me the kick up the backside I needed to get involved in the current fests. Thanks for the encouragement, pal! Me & Kenny are starting work on a Kinks tune & I'm tossing ideas around for a parody lyric... watch this space.
