Almost ran out of time to do something for this fest, but slipped this one in at the last minute.

A cover of the famous 1956 Leiber & Stoller song done by The Drifters, Dion, Donald Fagen and many others. I'm most familiar with the brilliant, jazzy, late-night Donald Fagen version on his album 'Nightfly', so I have a few nods to that one in my simplified and dirtier version. Sadly, I don't have Larry Carlton on lead guitar though  ::)

It's a song I love, so I do return to it every once in a while.

This one has Fender Telecaster, Fender Precision Bass, and vocals + Garageband drums and soul organ. All simply recorded on the MBR.

Johnny Robbo

There isn't a week that goes by where I don't listen to The Nightfly all the way through at least once. You've done a superb, loosely funky version of one of the album's stand-out tracks: sort of how I would imagine the Rolling Stones would have done it, but at the same time you've definitely put your own stamp on it. Utterly brilliant!

Great choice for the 50s R&RFest! Gritty, rhythmic, and soulful - the soul organ in particular really kicks it into gear.

I'm familiar with the Dion version, but on the strength of your cover will have to check out the Donald Fagen version sometime.

I like the bluesy/funky spin and the smooth vocals you've put on this Greeny! The song flows along easily and makes me tap my feet to the beat. Nice one.....excellent work!

I did a cover of Ruby Baby a while back but it was more of the older R&R/doo-wop style. Due to wrists pain and hand grip problems that made it impossible to handle a guitar, I've had to sit out the 50's R&R Fest. A real bummer for me but I was able to strum a few chords yesterday after a three month lay off so I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I enjoyed it Tim!
