So 20 years ago I Thru-Hiked the Appalachian Trail. It took me 5 months & 11 Days, 2100 miles through 14 states, up the east coast. Absolutely one of my most treasured experiences and one I think of often, quite a lot lately. I wrote this yesterday while reminiscing & decided to explore some of the synthy sounds in the Akai EWI5000.
And the 1st line was borrowed from my song "Summertime Blues".
1 Resonator Tenor uke/vocals (stereo)
1 Tenor Sax (stereo-ewi)
1 spacey sound (stereo-ewi)
1 twirly whirly sound (stereo-ewi)
Occasionally
written & performed by Hook
Summer again
in the land of no season
the dark clouds rolling in
might bring some rain
Small respite
but still mighty pleasing
Cool breeze
And memories of Maine

Occasionally its
North
The only way to go

Tunnels of green
Virginia jungle
Up the coastline
State by State
Sidetracked once or twice
Led to some tumbles
But I couldn't head south
No matter no matter how late

Ocassionally
Its 1996
Sometimes it still feels
Like I'm carrying bricks

Thunder rumbles
I remember
Storms Not met for
People to weather
Now memories
I treasure

6 months planned
3 weeks to spare
Met & entertained
parts of myself never knew
Connections
I wonder if they are still there
This me I see in this memory
I often envy you

Ocassionally it
Doesn't feel so long ago
But then again
I know

Some melancholy in the feel of this and great song writing all round.  You're a brilliant sax player as well, think what you could've done in the jazz fest with that EWI.

How come the mid-nineties was twenty years ago?  That can't be right, can it?

Back for more - great lyrics on this, thoughtful and introspective - wonderful.
That EWI is brilliant, so expressive - you need to give us the low down on it and does it meet your expectations? Love to hear your thoughs on this brother.

This is beautiful. You really capture that "pastoral" vibe with this... like you're actually singing & playing this in a forest glade. You are a truly talented multi-instrumentalist: that EWI sounds magical in your hands. Bravo, mate!

I'm digging this, but I can't get over the through-hiking of the AT. Damn impressive.

Is the EWI a midi controller, or does have built-in sounds (or both)? That sax sounds great. The dynamics are there that would be hard to pull off strictly on keys.

I dig it.

Hook

Thanks for the kind words.
Blooby-yes it has/does both. It has a 3g memory with 100 presets, 50 wind instruments and 50 synth sounds. They are all tweak able and able to be saved in the user banks. I'm a preset guy and the winds are really great sounding and it has an amazing dynamic range.
It also is a midi controller but I have 0 interest in that.
Rock on!
