ORH.. Tim... whoever was else involved. This is beautiful. Thanks for sharing your tips on the VOX. Another thing I would like to add... I usually record my VOX in my wifes car... I mount the BR on the steering wheel to keep the correct distance (This does effect the overall outcome). The cab acts as a great studio.... Normally have to do this while parked in the garage (during the winter). I've found that the "Onboard" mic works great using this method. The only downfall ... your sitting down. Works for me.

Thanks again guys... this is a great piece of work. ;)

LOL!!!!!! This is EXACTLY what I do. two reasons - first, it's the only place in the house where I can get enough seclusion and privacy to belt vox out without being embarrassed (I ahve to sing really loud to get a good voc), and second, it is a great studio. You are sitting down (bad) but I am used to that because I practice most of my vocals when driving around in the car anyway!!

Quote from: oldrottenhead on April 26, 2009, 09:40:51 AMwhen i recorded the lead vocal, i turned the music down to 80, used the fornylon setting and had the sns input up to 8. i held the mbr in my hand at a slight angle and sang.

for the backing vocals, the first higher voice i sang using guitar effect 22 st clean through the onboard mic to two tracks to get a stereo effect.

the second backing vox was done in the same way but using vocal fx1. lead vocal was on one track panned centre, both backing vox to two tracks panned full left and right.

turning the music down when recording the vox, helps you hear and monitor yourself a bit better and there is less chance of peaking or missing the fact that you are peaking cos you cant hear for the music. hope that makes sense.

ORH, thanks a bunch for this. I will be trying out these ideas because I am woreking on something that needs a lot of lush, dreamy vox. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

Nigel

I just had to come back and listen again!

I was here working, doing my thing, when I realized that my brain-wave-stereo was playing inside my mind - and this song was playing.  This isn't the first time this has happened with one these great songs on this site, but this time I'm sending a thank-you to the Author!

Great sound.  Love the sweeping choruses.  I didn't realise that Jemima's Kite was a band made from members of this site.
I'll certainly be listening with interest to more of your material at sound click.
