"Splinters" has always been one of my favorite songs. I first heard the Johnny Jenkins version, but I dig Dr John's original as well. In recent years the Allman Brothers played the hell out of this song, using Johnny Jenkins' version as a template. I used the Jenkins take as a starting point as well, but tried to adapt the funky voodoo drum beat into something a little more back porch.
