50's Fest Submision

A rockabilly version.

There was a time - when Rock 'n' Roll was in its infancy, one may say - that drums were not an established element to recordings. In fact, even in Country music drums were seldom used and when they were, as could be heard on the Grand Old Opry in Nashville, the drummer played behind a curtain so as not to offend the purists.

So, in homage to those early pioneers and with a nod to the late Sam Phillips of Sun Recording Studios in Memphis, it's just rythm guitar, lead guitar, bass and vocal on this one..

There is a beautiful symphony playing within us all..

Johnny Robbo

Superbly authentic. Just brilliant, mate! Superb rockabilly guitar work - outstanding! Interesting info about the lack of drums on those early recordings. Just had a listen to some early Elvis (Sun Studios era) & for the first time I noticed the absence of drums. You learn something every day!

A fine version and great guitar playing.  Funny, I hadn't really noticed the absence of drums either - until you mentioned it..

ODH

Ooh, that's good, Heg.  Excellent playing and recording.

I've noticed that on a lot of these old rock'n'roll songs the drums are either absent or really low in the mix. The driving rhythm comes from the guitar style and the pumping bass. And so it is with your recording here.

Who needs drums?

very enjoyable

Really nice, great singing and I love the "Mystery Train" chug of the guitar.

I play a number of instruments, but I ain't no drummer, so as I record I always lay down an acoustic guitar track first to get both the song's chord structure as well as a strong percussive structure. I guess that's why they call it "rhythm guitar".

TPB

No drums that is when you need that great bass player to hold the bottom end Excellent recording bravo  to you  really enjoyed it

Life is not about the number of Breathes you take, it is the amount of times your breathe is taken away
