Ok, I truly have a problem. I found a brand new cassette recorder ( ???) at walmart for $20, came with a cheap tape. I then ordered Cassette converter off amazon for $20. I recorded this and "Donna" yesterday in the car & it sounds like complete crap!

Great performance - you are a showman, Hook.

Reminded me a bit of listening to Buddy Holly's Apartment Tapes (although his reel-to-reel was of somewhat higher fidelity ;) ).

+1 That sounds so old school. Be interesting to take the audio out (headphones) into a digital recorder to see if you can cut some of that hiss?? Love the performance and the ambience. I think that USB cassette capture is the problem at a guess :-)

Noooo! :) Well at least not for the OldSchoolStudio fest.  :D

The limitations (tape hiss, wow and flutter) and strengths (smoother handling of signal clipping, such as pushing the levels on a drum, instrument, or vocal track) of the recording format, as well as trying a different work style or limitations compared to your normal modern digital recordings are the whole idea of the festival: not a bug, but a feature.

While the hiss is a drag, the less in-your-face recording sounds great to me. Really nice version of this tune. You are such a fearless vocalist. Makes me jealous as all get out.

Well it sounds like it's supposed to.
I'm a big buddy holly fan,my dad played him constantly along with Roy Orbison.
This brought back memories of him.
Well done hook.

I actually like the way this has come out! All the "grit" in there adds to the retro vibe. Once again, you play the song brilliantly... just voice & uke: nowhere to hide any flubbers. It takes balls to record like that & you pull it off superbly, mate!
