Great job guys. The drums are especially impressive. How did you do them? They sound very realistic and there are so many great fills, which is something we don't often hear from programmed drums.

And the piano playing is incredible, especially in the intro. I know Johnny's a great guitar player but I had no idea he could play the piano so well. Excellent!

Brilliant vocals and guitar playing too!

Thanks chaps. I had a real blast putting the backer together & Tommy sent me his parts & they just slotted straight into the mix with no tinkering required - he always gets such a clean, crisp sound in his recordings which makes them a joy to work with. I love his growly vocals too & that solo is pure Carl Perkins rockabilly heaven!

As for the piano... I hat to shatter any illusions about my keyboard skills, but it's all programmed in the piano roll. I use a free VST piano called 4Front Piano which goves a great honky tonk, barrel house sound. Thanks so much for the compliments on the piano part - I always try to make my midi parts sound as authentic as possible, but it's hard to be objective: I know it's midi, so I'm always unsure about whether I've pulled off a convincing sound or not. It's really gratifying to know I'm getting it right, so thanks again chaps!

As for the drums... I did a post on how I put my drum parts together a while ago:

https://songcrafters.org/community/index.php?topic=20947.0

That pretty much sums up how I do it. The fills are easy enough - you just do a basic "template" for a fill (in the manner described) and it doesn't take much effort to come up with variations on that first basic idea. Soon enough you can have a whole song's worth of drum fills & rolls. I'll also sometimes tweak a drum fill so that it fits better with a guitar lick - it makes it sound like the drummer & guitarist are playing off each other a little & really adds to the impression of a live band.

Once again, chaps (and especially Tommy) thanks so much!

John.
