Got to confess, the original is not one of my favorite Buddy Holly songs, mainly because of the sugary-sweet strings on it. But I like the version a lot - nice and uncluttered, and really dig the syncopation.

Maybe someday I can fumble my way through my own guitar chords this well.

That's the way to do it! A man after my own heart. Very nice version. Straightforward and heartfelt. You've got a very pleasing voice and your guitar is perfect accompaniment. With some really nice flourishes at the end! Yes, we are our own worst critics. A little fumble here or there turns it into improv - like jazz. Some of the best notes are mistakes lol.
