Hi Folks,

Here is another cover. I've been doing of covers lately just to keep the hand in.

I read a biography of Bruce Springsteen recently and listened to his music as the author took me through the various eras.

I really liked the Springsteen cover of Chris Baily's song. Chris was in the first ever punk band - the Saints - and wrote this some time in the early 1980s.  I saw Chris and his band many times and enjoyed this song a lot - so two pleasures in one.

I also saw Bruce Springsteen playing here in Melbourne a couple of years ago and he played this song.

I hope you enjoy it.

New mix added 16/4/2016 - I used LANDR to tidy up the mix.  Its a little bright because I chose the high intensity mode. I've used up my two free mixes, so I'll leave it for now.

Don't know the original, but this is excellent, mate! I can definitely hear it as the kind of thing that Springsteen would do. Bravo!

Agree with Farrell!

I remember The Saints very well - our band played Stranded in the early 80's.

I don't know the original, either - but I enjoyed listening to this tight little rocker. Nice one, Ian!

Thanks very much for the comments.

I just re-listened to the song and I hated the drums. So, I went back to the file and re-arranged them. I have re-posted the song above with the new drums.

I use EZ Drummer and while I enjoy using that more than the drums in the BR800, I can't always find the right drum sound and rhythm. There is also a problem if you change your drum patterns after the rest of the instrumentation is recorded, especially if you are a sloppy player like me, because the beats are always quantised and if you are not playing with the beat then you get found out.

Anyway, I think the drum arrangement for the track is better now, although it is still not exactly what I want. If anyone wants to record "real drums" for this track then I'd be happy to send the song to you without drums.

In the mean time, I might invest in some newer drum beat "packs" to spice up the EZD drum sounds - I'm still using the original ones that came with the program.

Cheers,

Ian

Nice job Ian. Very good vocal and I dig your arrangement but I might raise the guitars and bass in the mix a bit. Great listen.
Rock on!

Hi Hook,

Thanks for the advice.  I've had another play around with the mix but I think I'll let it sit for a few days and go back to it again later. Sometimes its hard to be objective when you have been listening to a mix for a long time.
