Guys, I have to be honest with myself. I can't play jazz, the best i can do is some Blues in a jazzy style. But I got my Dad to play some live drums. He IS a jazz player. He is retired some years ago now but he played many, many times and is a great Jazz drummer. Anyway I got Dad to play his part first along to a basic beat i put down so he could play to a set time. I then came home put the headphones on and noodled away in a blues style with as much of a nod to Jazz as I could muster...

That's a fine bit of drumming from your dad (real drums make all the difference, don't they?), and some nice bluesy riffing and jazz chording.

If you added an adventurous bass track that played off the drums, this would really lean into jazzland very well

This is excellent! I'd say you made a fine job of getting the jazz vibe here. It's not about knowing the Altered Dominant Scale in every position, any more than being an artist requires knowledge of the chemical formula for the paint. It's about phrasing & touch, which you've got here by the bucket load! Congratulations to you & your Dad!

Great stuff, Mike - and dad!  Great feel - bluesy but definately with a jazz feel.  Most importantly it is a fine piece of music.
