Stereo recording with two dynamic mics

I haven't tried this, I only just came across it.  It looks like it has been up for about a year.  Has anyone tried this method?  Any opinions?

For less than the cost of a pair of impedance matching transformers (not to mention all those adapters and cables), you could buy a small mixer. In addition to costing less, a mixer will give you better results because it can provide the gain boost needed by dynamic mics.

Impedance matching transformers - $60 per pair

Behringer 6-channel mixer with 2 XLR inputs and phantom power - $50

I don't dispute the cost issues but I thought the guy's point was that it could done if you already had the mics, which is a bit like saying it's cheaper to drive a Rolls Royce than a Toyota, if you already have the Rolls Royce.

And the mixer has other applications than just connecting two mics to the MBR so that makes his method less useful overall.

But are you so keen on Behringer?  My experience, particularly with an X-Vamp, has not been so good.  A couple of pieces of equipment just begin to lose their functions after a while. I can't say that I'm crazy about Behringer.

Well I know there are different experiences on Behringer equipment. Maybe I've been lucky. I've had a V-Ampire and the midi footcontroller FCB1010 for 5 years with no trouble, and used their Powered speakers and mixers on different live occasions without problems (the guy that owns them is happy too), but I have a friend who has worked professionally with sound and he tells me about some trouble. But I guess if you're not a professional it's a good deal.

Maybe it's just luck.  I have friends that have had good use out of Behringer equipment.  They certainly offer good features for the price.  On my X-V amp the presets started to disappear and then I would reset them but nothing would work on that channel. It was weird so I just stopped using it. Everything has amp and speaker simulation these days so I haven't really noticed the loss.

Have you tried replacing the battery? I found this on the Behringer support site:

Question
My X V-AMP is not saving the sounds which I have programmed. Every time I disconnect the power cord, my programmed sounds are replaced by the factory settings.

Answer
There is a 3V battery (CR2032) inside the X V-AMP which is there to hold the memory when the unit is not being used. This battery should last for several years, however if you do find that your X V-AMP is losing it's memory you may find that this battery is depleted. However, please excercise caution when changing the battery in the X V-AMP. This procedure is not easy and we recommend this service be performed by qualified personnel.

Thanks.  It never occurred to me that that might be the case.  I'll give it a try.
