JazzFest (banner image missing)

My first submission for the Jazz Fest. This is based on a Miles Davis trick of sitting on a single chord (in this case Am7) for 8 bars then going up a semitone to Bbm7 for 4 bars and then back to the Am7. Chords that have no logical connection to the ones which follow or precede them in a sequence are known as "static" chords - hence the title. Tag on a couple of jazz staples such as a riff at the start of the tune (known as the "head" in jazz circles) and a bit of a minor blues turnaround (F7 E7 Am7 E7) and you have this tune basically.

I was trying to go for a looser spontaneous, jamming kind of feel on this with interplay between the different instruments. Not sure if I pulled it off, given that the drum & keyboard solos were done in the Piano Roll View, one mouse click at a a time, but I gave it my best shot.

All the usual suspects...

Hi Johnny Robbo,

Can you please upload an mp3, or provide a direct link to the mp3 file? Your song can't be added to our festival jukebox unless we have a link to an actual mp3 file, and Soundcloud doesn't provide that.

Thanks,
cuthbert

Ahh... sorry!  :-[ The file was too big, so I've done a lower bit rate version. Cheers for the heads-up :)

No worries! Also, if you can host the file someplace that allows direct access to the mp3 file, that also can be linked. We only have trouble when there's not a direct link to an mp3.

cheers,

Am amazed that you got Geezer Butler to play bass on this :-) Super toe tapping Jazz, Jazzalicious - and super soloing as well. Love the technical bits on the chords - really interesting.

Listened to this via my cell phone in the evening and I liked this from the first note!

You should play here at the local Jazz Festival! I can hear the feel of the "jazz street" :) http://porijazz.fi/en/

Excellent jazz song! The solos are just amazing - both guitar and organ! Fine entry to the fest!
