Cuthbert's suggestion for embedding pictures hosted on flickr is the easiest solution.

Quote from: alfstone on March 03, 2016, 01:49:32 PM- first of all: is it possible to embed an image that is ONLY on my PC (...I mean NOT online, on a web site...)?

I assume you're asking if you can upload an image from your PC to Songcrafters and display that image in the message. If so, the answer is yes.

Quote from: alfstone on March 03, 2016, 01:49:32 PM- if the answer is yes, great, but how?  :D

First of all, you have to understand that when you create a new message and specify a file (image, mp3, etc.) to upload as an attachment, the upload doesn't start until you click the Post button. Therefore, you can't refer to an attachment in your message while you're initially creating the message because the attachments haven't been uploaded yet. So, you have to specify the files you want to attach and Post the message, then go back in and edit that message. Now the attachments will exist on our server and you can refer to them by right-clicking on the attachment name and selecting "Copy Link Location". Then you can paste that link into your message between the [img][/img] tags.

Quote from: alfstone on March 03, 2016, 01:49:32 PM- if the answer is no, so it's mandatory to link an image on the web, then I get lost with the problem of the dimensions of the image...if the link is to a large image (as in my situation), I need to use the IMGLINK, right?

So, in my example, I should upload ON FLICKR also a smaller copy of the same image, and after that, use the imglink tool to both images?

The width of the message display area is 790 pixels. Obviously, there's a problem if the picture you want to post is wider than 790 pixels. Now, the software will fit larger images into the message width automatically. However, this is very wasteful because large pictures can take a long time to load, and if there are several large pictures on the same page, the page can take a really long time to load, especially if your internet service isn't very fast. Many modern cameras and phones can take pictures that are several thousand pixels wide! There's no sense in embedding an image that's 3,000 pixels wide when you know that we can only display 790 pixels. So the easy solution is to copy your picture to a smaller size (790 pixels wide or less) before you upload it. An extra benefit is that it will upload much quicker.

But sometimes you want to attach a very large picture so that people can zoom in and enjoy all the details of it. For this reason, I created the [imglink][/imglink] tags. These tags should not be used when your picture is 790 pixels wide or less. Use the [img][/img] tags instead. But if your picture is wider than 790 pixels, then you can make a smaller copy of it (less than 790 pixels wide) and attach both pictures. Then, using the [imglink][/imglink] tags, you can specify the small picture to be shown on the page and the large picture to be shown when a user clicks on the small picture. This is the syntax:

[imglink=URL_of_Large_Image]URL_of_smaller_image[/imglink]

After reading your post and seeing how frustrated you were about embedding images, I decided to try to improve things. So I've added some extra information beside each attachment to help you. When you edit a post, you can now see the dimensions of each image attachment displayed beside the file name. If the image is 790 pixels wide or less, it will also display the BBCode for displaying the image. Simply copy this text and insert it into your message wherever you want the image displayed.

If the image attachment is wider than 790 pixels, a warning message is displayed beside the attachment file name to let you know that the image is too big to embed with the [img][/img] tags. Instead, you should attach a smaller copy of the image and link it to the larger image using the [imglink][/imglink] tags. Or, you can simply choose not to embed your large image in the message. People can click on the attachment if they want to view the image.

Perhaps someday, I'll devise a better way to deal with large images. Until then, I hope the enhancements I made today will make it easier for you to embed smaller images.

I'm a sucker for this style of guitar - going back to the first time I heard Larry Carlton. You've got yourself a beauty there, mate. The sound is gorgeous too - sweet as honey & warm as melted butter!

Thanks, 64, THIS was the missing point for me! Now everything is clear.

I'm also glad if this thread can help other photo-dummies like me!  :D
