Great Tune.  Haven't been here in a while and what a first song to listen to. How about a breakdown on how it was recorded, what instruments used and such?  What was direct recorded and was there any mics used?  Was wondering if the acoustic was direct or using a mic.  Were the other instruments keybpard patches?

Really nice.  Thanks for posting this.

This is beautiful, mate. It's got a real "prog rock" feel to it - a bit like Camel in their softer moments. A gorgeous melody, orchestrated superbly. Bravo!

Thanks for the kind comments everybody.

This was recorded into Presonus Studio One 3 Professional via an Audiobox 1818VSL interface.

The guitar used was a fairly cheap Yamaha APX6N electro classical which was both DIed and miced using a Rode NT2a condensor mic.  All other parts (including the fast arpeggio guitar parts - mainly the bits in unison with the "double bass" and "flute") were played on a Yamaha Motif XS7 workstation synth and recorded initially into the XS7 midi recorder and then recorded one track at a time into Studio One.  It was mixed using only stock Presonus plugins.

As I think Blooby spotted - the first unison line was played but heavily quantised and (spoiler alert!) copied onto other XS7 midi tracks and altered a bit to keep the tight timing whilst changing the notes played.  The wonders of midi!

I think the cymbals were from Impact which is the Studio One percussion synth.

As a fairly recent convert to PC recording in general and Studio One in particular, I haven't yet explored the mastering functions yet so the piece is effectively just the unmastered mix.

Nice! Would sound great with folksy vocals, but stands VERY well on its own too.

It's a shame that only a few people ever get to hear all the treasures buried on sites like this.
