eats batteries even when off?

My BR-600 really likes batteries.  It seems to sip on them even while the device is turned off.  Today was the third time where I've had to start my session by replacing dead batteries - batteries that were new as yesterday and only used for 30minutes.  The first two times this happened I thought maybe I had accidentally turned the BR back on when storing in it's case. Or outright left it on.  But not this time.  I made sure it was off. The display was dark. No lighted buttons.  Yet 24 hours later the batteries were dead, dead, and dead.

Anybody else have this problem?  Guess I have to remove the batteries after each use? >:( Maybe those cobbler's elves have switched from late night shoe making to mulittracking.

(based on the manual I was expecting at least few hours worth for juice from fresh batteries. or is 30-50 minutes typical?)
