Trimming and Fading with LP Ripper (instead of Audacity, etc.) -- Tutorial

Ted

Instead of using Audacity to trim off the head and tail of my songs, I prefer to use LP Ripper.

It's a shareware (free to try) program for Windows that's intended for normal people (non-musicians) to convert their LPs and cassettes to digital files.  Its sole purpose in life is to cut up a big WAV file into one or more smaller WAVs or MP3s.

The free trial only lets you split a WAV into two separate tracks--which is all you need for trimming one song.  However, if you used your BR to record a rehearsal or live performance of multiple songs, you might prefer the full/paid version at $34.95 US.

This does look interesting, Ted - I have a Windows box that I use a bit less than my MacBook Pro, so I think I will check it out. If it's quicker than Audacity (which usually draws me into trying something else with it), then it is indeed worth a download for quick edits.

Thanks,
cuth

p.s. and now the shit ratio on this post has decreased! ;)

You shouldn't have advertised, Ted - It could have been the longest running "goose egg for replies" post in forum history. I actually had a music post that almost made it to page two before a comment. Felt kind of bad. Page two is ancient history on this forum ::)

Anyway, what I'm saying is that even though a post is good, it could slip through the cracks. And a bad post could get a kazillion replies due to being hijacked!! I love hijacked posts. Hijacked posts rule...

I like your technical offerings, so I didn't want you to think nobody looked at them. I'll have to post more replies  :D

This looks good. I used Audacity to chop my recent open-mic performance into 3 separate mp3's, and it was a bit fiddly. Anything that's easier is definitely worth a look.

Thanks...!

I have a MacBook Pro too, but I'm usually running Windows in Boot Camp.  I intend to spend more time in OSX.  You got me wondering about a Mac alternative to LP Ripper.  Here's what I found:

Bro

I'm using mac too! Not a pro though.

If you are a audacity fan you can get it as a free Application on Apples site.

Just if other mac users was missing it. :)
If you loose track over a chord progression, play as fast as you possibly can. Nobody will know. Thats how they invented bebop.

You can also get it straight from Audacity's web site (Mac OS X, Linux/Unix, or Windows):

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/

That way, you can be sure you're getting the latest version.
