Boss Micro BR First Steps - Part 2

In this tutorial, we assume you have already recorded one or two tracks of an instrument like it is explained on part 1.

We are now going to learn ro record the vocals and how to mix all the tracks to create a better sounding song.

What is needed?

   * Headphones
    * The Micro BR recorder
    * A voice

Procedure:

  1. First let's start by choosing the built-in microphone input. Press INPUT.
   2. Press TR2 (MIC).
   3. Press Exit.
   4. Sing something in a confortable but firm volume, you will start seeing the volume level move. Remember to adjust the Volume Input (on the right side) so that it doesn't display OVER, but has an high volume. Overclip is what happens when you exceed the Input volume limit. You should try to avoid it while keeping the volume level high. Later, you can lower it in the mixing part.
   5. Press Stop and Rewind simultenously and Record the vocals on an unused track, like it's shown on part 1.
   6. When you're satisfied with the result proceed to step 7.
   7. Rewind to the start point and press Play. Now, press on one of the tracks (TR1 or other) and then, with the CURSOR, press Right (>) one time. The track level screen will appear.
   8. Select a track and as you listen to your song, use the + or - to adjust the volume of it (100 is default, more than that is boosting the volume, less is cutting the volume). Do the same on all tracks.
   9. If the song has finished playing just rewind to the beggining and play it again, you can do this without exiting the track level screen. It's important to mix as you listen to the song.
  10. When you have finished setting the tracks volume, move the CURSOR right (>) until you reach the Track Pan screen. Use the + or - to adjust the pan (C00 is center, L50 is left and R50 is right). For vocals, bass and the drumkick is best to keep them on the center. Guitars and other rhythm tracks, keep them mid-left or mid-right. For ambience tracks, put them left or right.
  11. When you're finished, press the right CURSOR (>) until the Track Reverb screen appears. Adjust the reverb with + or - (100 is maximum, 0 is no reverb) on each track.
  12. When you're satisfied with the results, press Exit, rewind to the start and listen to your song again. Do you think it is ready to master? If so, proceed to part 3 of this tutorial. If not, keep working on the mix.

On the next tutorial, we will learn to master and export the song to an universal mp3 file, playable anywhere. And remember, if you have any doubts don't be afraid to expose them on the forum.
