Sorry for the long absence and drive-by post.  I'll get back to listening and commenting soon.  I wanted to post this while it's still 'timely'.  I've moved to North Carolina - it's nice to be living down south again - living w my friend and musical brother J.B. Beverley http://www.jbbeverley.com/.  JB has a lot of friends that are veterans and several have asked him to pen a song for them.  Since JB never served, he was a bit reluctant for a while, but on 11/10 [the 270th 'birthday' of the Marine Corps] this song came to him.  We recorded and released it on 11/11 and I want to share it w you folks.

Recorded on Korg DAW, mixed and mastered using Adobe Audition.  JB's an excellent engineer and producer as well as being a killer songsmith.  He got a great dobro track out of me.  Hope you like the song.  DD

Phone Calls From My Uncle  JB Beverley 11/10/2015

Sarge said Son, take this machine gun
Shoot 'em if they stand or if they run.
Had to lock and load, Huey to the Red Zone
Wonderin' if I'd make it home.
Scared to the bone

We hit the ground.  They fired off some rounds.
Made a cemetary out of that town.
Then they sent us west.  Put the unit to the test.
Then they pinned a medal on my chest.
Still no rest

Hadn't been stateside but just a little while
When Uncle Sam rang my phone line
Said you're shippin out at 0600 on the first
So you better get yourself some family time
My wife cried

This time around, we got pinned down
Had to leave eight brothers in the ground.
But I got clear, home by New Year's,
Wife and son couldn't hold back the tears.
Daddy's really here

Hadn't been stateside but just a little while
When Uncle Sam rang my phone line
Said you're shippin out at 0600 on the first
So you better get yourself some family time
Outta my mind.

Ten years gone - just another pawn
In some chess match at the Pentagon
But I stayed the course, wife filed for divorce.
Uncle Sam ain't got no remorse.

Now it's time to, sendin' me down the road
To a place that I don't know
Sendin' me home.

Thanks for listening!

A very emotional song, vocal delivery, and dobro playing Geo. An excellent honor to the Veterans.
