Cathedral of the Darkened Day

This is a poem I wrote when I was in school, so all the way back in 1983.  It's been sitting in a notebook in a drawer in the spare room unloved for years.  It occurred to me that I could dig it out for the Halloween fest.  There's some weird shit in that book I can tell you.

Midnight sings a melody
In voices soft and heavenly
Darkness wins so cleverly
In holding off the dawn

Along with Oak and Silver Birch
A Willow now is seen to lurch
Away from that unholy church
Where all the dark is born

Cathedral of the darkened day
Where demon spirits come to pray
And supernatural forces play
From deep inside the vaults

No light - inside it's cold and stark
No candle light may pierce the dark
The melody now makes its mark
A grim resounding waltz

Cathedral stands with towers high
Darkened spires in darkened sky
Keeps an ever watchful eye
On those it feels may stray

The frightened souls of newly dead
Receive their fate with fear and dread
Cathedral makes no softened bed
But evil souls must stay

Very cool poem, very creative piece. I can hear Vincent Price reading this for some reason. Also reminds me a bit of the haunted mansion section of Alton Towers :-) Great stuff.
