I've only recently started playing around with computer recording. I've got Reaper and an M-Box interface and my cheap live mics and tried my hand at recording an original from my Tuesday night jam club. Everything was one take and then some tidying up in Reaper. See what you think. I should have some recordings soon from Kayla and Maddie.
Just a roadie again.....

A fine country blues rock song! I'd say the PC recording and cheap mics are working out quite fine because this sounds real good!

Thanks folks. I should point out, the song is by my mate Jimmy who did the vocals and guitar. I did the bass and some cajon drum and Jimmy's wife did some uke. It was all set up, tracked and pulled down in less than two hours so it was originally a bit messy. Understandable considering this was their first time recording ever and my first go at recording a whole song on the computer.

When I got home I tidied up a lot of mis-timed vocals and guitar and tweaked eq, added a little 'verb and compression where needed. Jimmy had never played with headphones on before and, due to them not being fully enclosed ear type he had problems keeping them on as he couldn't help bopping around while playing. At one stage they fell off completely so we had to punch-in the last quarter of the song on the guitar take.

I redid my bass line at home and replaced the cajon drums with midi drums just using the computer keyboard with snare and kick, adding a bit of extra reverb to the snare. I then added some high hats in the intro and tidied up a few off time beats. After all that there are still quite a few things i'd like to tidy up more and i'll keep fiddling with it over time until other recording sessions present themselves and then it'll get put to the side.
Just a roadie again.....

Just realised that I should have put this in the Halloween Fest. How do I go about that and am I too late.
