BR900CD garbled sound

Not been playing much due to some problems I wont bore you with but I just thought it would be a good idea to continue with a project I started earlier this year. I imported a couple of instrumental backing tracks and recorded the solo part on track 2 which sounded quite good back then but trying them out today they sound as if they have been buried in a toilet and thrown into the sea, like very garbled and the volume is also very low with a lot of echo. All I have done is connect the line out to a powered speaker and have not made any other connections other than the power lead. I would be grateful if anyone can help me find out what is wrong.

Sorry to have bothered you but it looks like a problem with my speakers as I just tried it through my amp and it works fine. Funny though because they worked fine last time I used them and they have not been moved.
