Recording Direct from Amp

I wonder if anyone else is having this issue.

I thought it would be a good idea to record direct from my amp since I use those setting all the time and I am used to them.  Also, it is a Line 6 Spider and they are known for having the "guts" basically of a POD so I figured it should work great.

Here is my problem.  I recorded something last night and it sounded fine when I was recording but when I played it back, it sounded pretty muddy.  I thought I made sure the input was low enough not to show "over" but it kind of sounds like it is. 

Also, when I put my headphones directly back into my amp, the tone was much more clear.  Am I losing quality going from amp to Micro BR?  Could it be the cord I am using?

what input mode are using in the MBR? if the spider has a line out-then  you may have to use the line input not the GTR input
Or you could use the MIC input and position the MBR in front of the speaker

I was going from the line out on the amp to the line in on the BR.  It seems like it should work but for some reason really doesnt sound right. 

I am hoping I am just doing something wrong.  I would hate to think I cant get a good tone going direct from my amp.

I would record with The insert effects turned off in  he MBR "INPUT<REC DRY> mode(pg 64-65 in manual)
and i would make sure the effects are off during playback as well since you say it sounded right when you werr recording- maybe the mbr effects are on during the playback

Yes, be sure to turn the EFFECTS and reverb OFF and select the LN input, not the EXT input.

There could be something wrong with your cable.

and i would make sure the effects are off during playback as well since you say it sounded right when you werr recording- maybe the mbr effects are on during the playback

You don't have to change the input mode to record without effects. Instead, simply turn the effects off by pressing the [EFFECTS] button.

What's the difference? When you set the input mode to <REC DRY>, you can use effects while recording and you'll hear the effect as you play but the guitar will be recorded clean (without effects). On playback, you can try different amp models and effects with the dry track and bounce it to re-record it on another v-track with the effects applied. But if you switch off the effects by pressing the [EFFECTS] button, you will only hear your clean guitar sound while recording. You can still try it with effects on playback and bounce it to another v-track, just as you can with the <REC DRY> input mode. However, you probably won't be able to play quite the same with the effects switched off as you would with them on. The effects inspire you and make you play differently than you would with a clean sound. So <REC DRY> lets you hear the effect while you're playing but doesn't record the effect, it just records the dry signal.

Yes- the point i was trying to make was that the track should be recorded dry if you want to capture the sound of the spyder and yes you would have to have the effects turned off so all you would be hearing during the recording is just the spyder

I turned the effects off and it made a definite difference.  I still think there is a quality loss going through the BR as opposed to the amp alone so I am going to get another chord in case that is the problem.
