of late i've done a lot of stripped back songs and neglected my br800.

not had much time to get him out to play, but tonight i had a chance, so none of yer live in the living room thumblestrumming on the guitar.

no this one is a multi track extravaganza of thumblestrumming and ineptitude.

i even dusted down my woolies strat for this one.

the lyric is inspired by three things i watched on tv. two negative one positive. hopefully the positive outweighs the negative and shites all over them.

the positive was brian eno's peel lecture on bbc4 (a must see that can only restore your faith in the brilliance of humanity).

the negatives where a PBS documentary about Henry Ford (a visionary yes, but also a twisted auld bastard) and our leader in waiting, Gideon gibbering in manchester today.

Gimme Eno anyday.

there won't be fifty shades of grey
there ain't no shadow you can hide in
forget the colours of the rainbow
any color you want as long as it is black
we're only here to live and die
we're only here to exist
shine a light....................................
we're only here for one moment
so do the best you can
shine a light.....................................

are we all in this together
or is it every man for themselves
do you have it in your heart
to give a helping hand
we're only here for one moment
so do the best you can
shine a light....................................
forget the colours of the rainbow
any color you want as long as it's black
as long as it's black (shine a light)

Love these lyrics, I've toured Henry Fords and Thomas Edison s estates. They wintered in Saradota, FL and we're neighbors. Very interesting homes. Nicely layered tune full & produced yet still minimal in a soothing way.
Rock on!

I love these full orh productions - your guitars sounds jangly and buzzy, and sit very well with the Juno and the lyrics. Nice one, James.

I'd like to check out the Eno lecture, but I'm on the work laptop tunneled into VPN, so the proxy workaround isn't possible for me at the moment. I'll bookmark it and try to check it out later.

Great words Jim. I like when u do this style. The bass is great, but also that simple arrangement put great focus on your vocal. Enjoyed a lot.

There's a lot of great stuff going on in this. The heavy fuzz of the background guitar and the bass makes the soundscape massive, and there's some very clever percussive rhythm guitar playing going on. Love the way the vocal floats over the top of all the layers.

Excellent work!

cheers guys but there is no bass on this one, it's all the woolies guitar. ;D ;D

Probably one of my favourite from you jim.
This could be a contender for the met to be opened up.
I like the guitar in the background as well.
