A very simple cover of the Bill Monroe bluegrass song. It's also famous as a Leadbelly blues variation, later covered as 'Where did you sleep last night' by Nirvana.

I like this old, mysterious bluegrass lyric and structure the best.

I wasn't even aware of this song until I heard it on a movie soundtrack (Stakeland - an excellent vampire film).

It's 4 tracks, with everything recorded through the on-board mic of the MBR. Two layers of acoustic guitar + two layers of vocal. There's a third vocal part which I recorded live on one of the guitar tracks.

Excellent vocals! I really dig this arrangement. Well done Greeny!

Greeny this is a cool cover of Bill Monroe's song! I'm amazed at the full sound with just a couple of acoustics and vocals..... are you sure you weren't born in the Blue Grass Hills of Kentucky? Fine work Tim!

Loved your version!!!

I know the Joan Baez version, but yours is very sophisticated (guitar and voices)

Bravo!

I've got to admit I haven't heard this song before but I'm knocked out by your vocals on this and your playing is also outstanding.
Well done.

Thank you, I rediscovered this song with you and then I remembered the version of nirvana

I like very much this song and your version...

Then can I try to put down some additional instruments on your voice(vote) and your guitars? (like bass dobro...etc)
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

One of your best covers, I reckon. I realized that I knew this song before hitting play, but I know I've heard it before (not the Nirvana variation, though). Love the acoustic and your vocal - there's some desolation in there, as there should be.

Hi - that's a very kind offer, but I deliberately left this stripped down / simple. I did a 'fuller' version, but it didn't sound right.

Thanks anyway.
