I like very much this song and I think that it was not put down  on Songcrafters

With my native accent it is a little bit particular  :) :) :) :) but the French soldiers who can be sang it in year 1800 (war of 1812) had doubtless also a funny accent

A research on Wikipedia indicates that it is a song probably from  Irish. The reference version is obviously of Paul Brady, but there is an alternate " american"version " with different words " Lilly of the west ",  with a beautiful version by Mark Knopfler with Chieftains on YT
my version stopped a little bit abruptly to go into the jukebox, I shal lput a complete version with a video in some days in YT

I play guitars and Low D Wisthle (and voice) ,   accordion, fiddle, mandoline are with Band in Box

thank you for listening, dear friends

Nice to hear another version of this. I posted an acoustic  version a few years ago https://songcrafters.org/community/index.php?topic=17176.0
You've done a nice full arangment on this. But I would have liked to hear you singing it in French.

Jean Pierre

Hello Charlie

I listened to your version.

Haughtiness the sound of the guitar is really bluffing,

It is not possible to sing this song in French: there is not, to my knowledge , a French adaptation of this song

Just a question:  what is the tuning of your guitar in this song? Open tuning or not ?

Which guitar (and microphone)  have you to have a so attractive sound ?

Good morning

I think the tuning was F F# E# F# A# E#
The guitar was a Takemine FP360SC and the microphone was a Shure SM57. Both put through a Zoom reverb straight to  Sony minidisc.
I think the tuning Paul Brady uses is  DADF#AD.

Did you use Google translate? As I don't quite understand if this is an insult or praise. Ha ha.
 Bon chance

This is very nicely done. It reminds me of Donovan in a couple of places, and your vocal has a Marc Bolan vibrato going on. You put the song across really well - lovely acoustic playing, vocals and tasteful backing instruments.

Sorry. The tuning was E G D G B D which I think I lowered a semi tone.
